Enhance Cultural and Creative Assets

Research has shown the critical importance of cultural and creative assets in building quality places and attracting talented knowledge workers. The creative new economy is defined as industries that have their origin in individual creativity, skill, and talent, and have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation of ideas, products and/or services. The recently prepared Cultural Economic Development Plan for Greater Lansing’s Urban Center includes recommendations consistent with the Greater Lansing Next plan and promotes a renewed focus for the region’s business organizations, as well as for the Arts Council of Greater Lansing and affiliated organizations. Top priorities include improved coordination of services for creative/cultural entrepreneurs; connecting existing initiatives with each other and with the creative/cultural sector; building cultural and creative sector leadership capacity; building and connecting clusters of cultural attractions and creative activity and broadening support for cultural economic development from traditional business and nonprofit organizations.
